Summers is a retired professor of accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a member of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, where he serves on the examinations committee, and is a director and past president of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. Summers is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Accounting Association. At the University of Texas, Summers served as chair of the accounting department and as an accounting graduate advisor. He is also a former member of the University of Texas events committee and the Red McCombs School of Business Hall of Fame Committee and formerly volunteered as a faculty fellow. Summers previously served as a member of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy for eight years.
He received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Rice University. Summers received a master of business administration and doctorate degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
