Crenshaw was an assistant U.S. attorney with the Department of Justice U.S. Attorneys' Office for the Eastern District of Texas. He is an adjunct criminal justice professor at Lamar University, a former assistant district attorney for Brazos County, and is admitted to practice law before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Southern districts of Texas. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Jefferson County Bar Association, National Association of Assistant United States Attorneys (NAAUSA) and Ducks Unlimited. He is also Eastern District of Texas delegate to the NAAUSA, a past member of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association and Brazos County Bar Association, and an alumni advisor for the Texas A&M University Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

Crenshaw received a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and a law degree from the Texas Tech University School of Law.
