Personal Information

Every two years the eight State District Judges having jurisdiction in Nueces County appoint a county auditor. This act establishes one aspect of the checks and balances system.

The office of the County Auditor is neither created by nor under the hierarchical control of the County’s administrative governing body, the Commissioners Court.

Ms. Margaret Hayes, along with her staff of twenty employees are an integral part of county government for maintaining the integrity of financial administration.

DUTIES

Forecasts financial data for budgetary formulation purposes. Audits the records and accounts of the various county departments. Administers the county budget as approved by Commissioners Court. Prepares and administers accounting records for all county funds.
