Personal Information

Bob Craig, a Lubbock attorney and longtime Lubbock school board member, was elected to the State Board of Education in November 2002 and re-elected in 2006. He is a member of the board's Committee on School Initiatives. He previously served on the Committee on School Finance/Permanent School Fund, which he chaired at one time.

Craig served on the Lubbock Independent School District's Board of Trustees from 1988 to 2002, including serving four years as board president. He was named the School Board Trustee of the Year by the Lubbock Classroom Teachers Association for the 1996-1997 school year.

Craig is a partner in the law firm of Craig, Terrill, Hale & Grantham, LLP. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas; Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation; College of Master Advocates and Barristers; and the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Craig, a Republican, has been active in his community, serving as director of the Rotary Club of Lubbock from 1990 to 1993 and as the Rotary Club president in 1993-1994. He has been a member of the board of directors of the Texas Tech University Foundation from 1996-2001; Texas Tech Chancellor's Council; Lubbock Chamber of Commerce; United Way of Lubbock; and as a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he has served on the staff parish commitee, administrative board chairperson and currently serves as Lay leader for the church. Craig earned his Eagle Scout and was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves.

He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Leadership Lubbock Program in 1991. His other honors include being named Outstanding Young Lawyer of Lubbock in 1983 and Boss of the Year in 1996-1997 by the Lubbock Legal Secretaries Association.

Craig earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with honors from Texas Tech University in 1973 and a law degree from Southern Methodist University in 1976.

Craig is married to a teacher at Texas Tech University. He and his wife have three children who all attended public schools in Lubbock. The Craigs received the Distinguished Alumni and Friends of Education Award from Texas Tech University for Outstanding achievement in education in 2006.
