Justice Patterson graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 1973.

She practiced law in New York at Sullivan & Cromwell and as a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Attorney’s office in New York and Austin.

She was also a shareholder at Johnson & Gibbs and Sneed, Vine & Perry before taking office on January 1, 1999.
