Daniel Perkins was elected to Place 1 of the Greenville City Council in May 2013 and previously served as a City Council Member from 1998 to 2001, 2001 to 2004 and again from 2010 to 2013. Perkins also served as mayor pro tem from 2002 to 2003.

Perkins was born in Sherman, Texas and received a BA from Southern Methodist University majoring in English and Political Science. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1984, where he was a member of the Board of Barristers, an honor received for having excelled in the art of Oral Advocacy.

Perkins began is law career in Greenville in 1984 and is a partner in the law firm of Watkins and Perkins. He was trained as a mediator at the American Academy of Attorney Mediators, Inc., in Dallas, Texas, in 1995.

Perkins served as a member of the District 1A Grievance Committee of the State Bar of Texas from 1994-2000 and is a past President of the Hunt County Bar Association and is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the Hunt County Bar Association.

Perkins has devoted many volunteer hours to the community with service as an officer and member in various organizations including the Boy Scouts of America, Greenville Kiwanis Club, National and Texas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, United Way of Hunt County, CLEAN Greenville, YMCA, Greenville Symphony League, Crossroads Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. Perkins helped organize and incorporate the Greenville, Texas Habitat for Humanity and served as the President of the Board of Directors in 1990. Perkins was instrumental in the creation of the Corporation for Cultural Diversity for Greenville, Texas, Inc.

Perkins and his wife Donna are the parents of three daughters, Kristen, Katherine and Sarah and they attend Wesley United Methodist Church, where he is active as a Sunday School teacher and in various capacities in the church.
