James Jenkins, who has served as chief financial officer for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) since 2012, recently announced his retirement from the agency, effective Aug. 31.

Jenkins has a long history of public service, starting with his initial hiring as an auditor with the Texas Department of Public Welfare in 1972. He also was director of External Audit at the Texas Department of Human Resources and the Texas Department of Human Services during a more than 15-year span from 1988 to 2004.



The retiring CFO was originally hired at DADS in 2004 in the CFO department and moved to budget director in 2007, holding that post for three years. He has also served as manager of administration support for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission since 2010. Jenkins also spent time in the private sector as an auditor.



Jenkins holds a bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas.
