ennifer Smothermon, MA, LMFT-S, LPC-S, of Abilene, Texas, is a therapist and the Director of Development at the Ministry of Counseling and Enrichment. She is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, serves as the Graduate Internship Coordinator and Supervisor for graduate students in practicum from two universities and serves as a board-approved supervisor for interns and associates seeking licensure. Jennifer specializes in family and play therapy, trauma informed care and attachment-based therapies. She was appointed as a professional member to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists by Governor Rick Perry in 2012. In 2016, she was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott as the Presiding Officer of TSBEMFT. During her tenure on TSBEMFT, she has chaired the Ethics, Licensing Standards, and Professional Development Committees and has served on the Rules Committee. She represented the board throughout legislative hearings in two Sunset Reviews. She was appointed as the TSBEMFT Professional Member to the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council in 2019. She was appointed by TSBEMFT to serve on the TBHEC Incubation Task Force and has served on the TBHEC Hiring Group and the Strategic Planning Group. Jennifer has served as the TSBEMFT delegate to the Association of Marriage and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards since 2015. She served on the AMFTRB Teletherapy Committee and co-authored AMFTRB Teletherapy Guidelines, served on their Mobility Committee and served 2 terms as Member at Large. She is currently serving as the President-Elect for AMFTRB. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Family Psychology at Hardin-Simmons University.
