Neves was a member of the Dickinson City Council from 1998 until 2012, serving 5 terms. He is very active in the Dickinson Community, serving as president of the Dickinson Historical Society and the Dickinson Festival of Lights. He was recognized for his community involvement by the North Galveston County Chamber of Commerce with the Community Service Citizen of the Year Award for 2007 and the Citizen of the Year Award for 2008.

Kerry Neves practiced law in Galveston County for 33 years. He and his wife, Sharon, have been married for 42 years, and they have a daughter, Erin. Sharon retired as the District Math Coordinator for Dickinson ISD and currently teaches math at the College of the Mainland..
