Scott Cannon, III was first elected to represent Duncanville ’s District 2 in 2003, filling a one-year unexpired term. Recognizing his contributions to city government and to the community, the voters of his district returned him to serve Duncanville in 2004, 2006 and again in 2008. Additionally, his peers on the City Council have twice elected him to serve as Mayor Pro Tem of Duncanville .
While Scott was a newcomer to city government in 2003, he is a long-time resident, community supporter and business owner in Duncanville . Scott and his family have made Duncanville their home since 1982. Scott earned a Bachelor of Business Administration-Accounting from the University of North Texas . He is a CPA with a public practice serving Duncanville and the surrounding area from his office in Duncanville since 1985. He was a founding member of the Swan Ridge Residents Association in 1984 and served in various leadership positions over the years, most recently as its president from 2000 to 2003.
Using his business and financial background, Scott was instrumental in forming the City Council Audit Committee which he has chaired since 2003. Among other things, this committee has developed policies that strengthen financial integrity and internal operating controls. He understands the investment of economic development funds and the returns they can generate, both in quality of life and financial benefit to City revenues. Projects he has supported are multi-million dollar park improvements, COSTCO, the Shops at Waterview Park, Blue Canyon Restaurant, Main Commons, expansions at Texwood Industries and Deford’s, Duncanville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Ben Franklin, Best Western Hotel, Center Street development and most recently, the Main Street Redevelopment Plan .
Scott not only serves on the City Council, but also serves on the Site-based Committee for Duncanville ’s Central Elementary School , Duncanville Project Graduation Advisory Board and, on a national level, the National League of Cities’ First Tier Suburbs Council Steering Committee.
