Glenn Hegar is an A&M graduate and comes to his new role as Chancellor from the elected position of Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Hegar replaces John Sharp, A&M's longest-serving chancellor, who announced his retirement in June 2025.
Hegar holds a Bachelor of Arts from Texas A&M and a Master of Arts and a law degree from St. Mary’s University. He earned his Master of Laws at the University of Arkansas.
After graduation, Hegar spent his career in service to the people of Texas. He served in the Texas Legislature as a state representative and a state senator, and he later became the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, where he developed a reputation for delivering results, prudently managing billions in taxpayer funds and leading with principle.
