Kelly M. Miller assumed the role of President of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in August 2017, having been a member of the Islander faculty and leadership team since 1994. Under her leadership, the Island University has been recognized as an R2 doctoral institution with high research activity, increased the number of honors students by 796%, increased the number of academic scholars by 282%, added key programs like civil and industrial engineering, and expanded the University’s presence into downtown Corpus Christi. During her tenure, she secured $45M from the Texas Legislature for a new Arts & Media building, $2.3M for engineering programs, $10M for the Lone Star UAS Center for Excellence and Innovation’s work with drone development and emergency management support, and an additional $4M from the City of Corpus Christi for drone use in economic development and emergency management. President Miller has led the campus through major natural crisis events, including two hurricanes, an unprecedented winter storm, and a global pandemic.
