Personal Information
A Port Commissioner since 1991, John W. Damon, is a fifth-generation resident of Brazoria County and served from 1987 to 1990 as a county judge – the first Republican elected to that position since Reconstruction. Damon has worked as a real estate investor and developer for more than four decades and spent 29 years employed in the manufacturing department of Phillips Petroleum Co. at Old Ocean (now known as the ConocoPhillips Sweeny Complex).
Damon lives just outside West Columbia, which, being an avid historian, he is quick to point out was the first capital of the Republic of Texas. A man of diverse talents, Damon is held in high esteem for his tasty recipe for menudo, a traditional Mexican stew made with tripe.
