Personal Information

Charles N. Butts retired as CEO of Medical Arts Hospital, Lamesa, in 2008, after 41 years as a health care administrator in Texas. In Lamesa, Mr. Butts, employed by the Covenant Healthcare System in Lubbock, worked to create a hospital district and led the construction of a new hospital. During his career he served as CEO of numerous rural hospitals throughout Texas, including Reeves County Hospital in Pecos (also with Covenant Healthcare System), Fort Duncan Medical Center in Eagle Pass, East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg, Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital in Brady, and Crane Memorial Hospital in Crane. Mr. Butts served in a leadership position in hospitals and clinics in Galveston, Big Spring and Winnsboro. He was involved in the construction of a new hospital for Winnsboro, affiliated with Presbyterian Healthcare System in Dallas. He continues to devote his time to improving rural health care by serving on the board of the Hill Country Community Action Association and on the governing board for the Texas Department of Rural Affairs.

Mr. Butts formerly served on numerous local and state boards, most notably on the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals (TORCH) and the Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange. He was a member of the Texas Hospital Association and served as State Treasurer for the Volunteer Advisory Council of Texas State Hospitals and Special Schools. He was named Outstanding Young Man by the Big Spring Jaycees and received the Man of the Year award from the Winnsboro Chamber of Commerce. He served in the U.S. Navy and attended California State University at Long Beach.
