Klussmann is a ranch owner, certified wildlife biologist and retired professor emeritus at Texas A&M University (TAMU). He is a past president of the World Aquaculture Society, and first president of the organization's United States chapter. He was named Professor of the Year twice at TAMU by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and is the two-time recipient of the Superior Service Award for Fisheries Work at the Texas Agricultural Extension Service. Additionally, Klussmann has authored numerous books and articles regarding aquatics, fisheries and Texas game.

Klussmann received a bachelor's degree and doctoral degree from TAMU, and a master's degree from Sam Houston State University.
