T. Paul Furukawa, Ph.D., of San Antonio is executive director of the Children’s Association for Maximum Potential, a youth camp and parental respite program for families with members with serious disabilities. He is a licensed master social worker and teaches courses on family violence and victimology at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Furukawa served as a military social worker for more than two decades, culminating as head of research and evaluation of all Army family programs. He established and supervised family violence-intervening Crisis Responses Teams for the San Antonio Police Department. Furukawa is past president of the Texas Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers and former member of the board of directors of the Council on Social Work Education. A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Furukawa received a master’s degree in social work from West Virginia University and a doctorate from the University of Denver, specializing in child protection strategies. His term will expire Feb. 1, 2011.
