Kris Whitfield was elected to the City Council in May 2007. She is the Past Chairman of the Board for the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce and the current Vice Chair for Government and Community Relations for the Chamber, overseeing the Development Review Committee, Adopt-A-Unit Troop Support Program, Arts Council, and Transportation & Infrastructure Committees. Kris is also co-chairing the 2009 Chamber Membership Drive. She is a 2003 graduate of Leadership Round Rock, and is currently serving on the advisory board for Leadership Round Rock and the Ascend Leadership programs. Kris served on the RRISD Partners in Education Advisory Board for several years and was a founder of the Round Rock ISD Education Foundation and is currently the Board & Committee Development Director for the Foundation. She is a member of Friends of the Round Rock Higher Education Center and the ACCtion for Education Committee. She also serves on the Mayor’s Round Rock Master Plan for Higher Education Committee. Kris serves on the YMCA of Greater Williamson County Board of Directors, is on the Board Development Committee and also serves on the board for YMCA Camp Twin Lakes. Kris is a founding member and currently the Vice President for the Round Rock Area Arts Council and serves on the Art in Public Places Committee. She is the Government Relations Director for the Round Rock Symphony, a board member for the Penfold Theatre Group, was a founding advisor for the Round Rock Symphony Orchestra and currently serves on their board of directors. Kris is a founder and the current Vice President for WIN (Women Impacting the Nation), a non-profit designed to encourage and empower women through education, activism and philanthropy. Kris serves on the Downtown Development Council, is a past President of the Heart of Round Rock Neighborhood Association, and is a member of Rotary where she is also a Past President. Kris is a founder and spokesperson for "Play for All" Park that is being designed for children of all abilities to have a safe place to play. She was also a founder of "Operation Giving Tree" which is a project to light the downtown water tower over the Christmas holidays. Kris moved to Round Rock in 1992 from Abilene, Texas, where she attended Abilene Christian University and Hardin Simmons University. She is the President and Co-Owner of CheckSmart Recovery. Kris is married to former RRISD Trustee Eric Whitfield who is attending Seminary at the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin. They have two children, Britta and Eric S., who both graduated from Round Rock High School. They also have two grandchildren. Kris and Eric attend St. Richard’s Episcopal Church where they serve as the Outreach Ministry Coordinators.
