Delia D. Jasso, a lifelong resident dedicated to the challenge of improving the quality of life in her beloved Oak Cliff, was elected to the Dallas City Council in June 2009 to represent District 1.
Having served as a community and civic leader for more than 20 years, Delia came to her Council seat with a proven track record of success in serving the citizens of District 1, Oak Cliff and the City of Dallas. For seven years from 2002-2009, she served as former Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Elba Garcia's appointee to the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Board. Delia was recognized for her leadership in 2005, when her colleagues supported her election to Vice President of the Board by the Dallas City Council. She has left an indelible and unmistakable mark on the City’s green spaces and parks.
Delia has also served and held office with the Women’s Council of Dallas County, Kidd Springs Neighborhood Association, Forward Dallas Advisory Committee, Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Society and the Lecture Luncheon Club of Oak Cliff.
While vigorously representing the interests of her own District, Delia shares her concern for the city as a whole by serving on various City of Dallas committees, including the Public Safety Committee; Budget, Finance and Audit; Trinity River Corridor Project; and Transportation and Environment.
In addition, she was appointed by the Mayor to serve on the Board of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Emergency Preparedness Planning Council.
A self made and successful business woman, Delia is the creator and owner of a language school. Her success in this endeavor is enhanced by her 13 years experience as a trainer and training manager for several large corporations in Dallas. She also writes a freelance blog for the Dallas Morning News promoting the Oak Cliff area.
Education is an overriding priority and commitment in Delia's life, a focus she has passed along to her two children. Delia graduated from Skyline High School and went on to study Journalism at Southern Methodist University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Delia is a volunteer with Texas Can! Academies, where she currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors.
Texas Can! presented Delia with their "Mother of the Year" award on May 13, 2008.
Delia is married to Justice of the Peace Juan Jasso and they have two grown children, Eric and Laura.
