Powers is senior vice president of clinical services at the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County. He is a licensed clinical social worker and licensed sex offender treatment provider. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and Texas Children's Justice Act Task Force, a life member of the Texas Parent Teacher Association, and a past board member of the State Council on Sex Offender Treatment. He is also a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America and a volunteer coach for the Carrollton Farmers Branch Soccer Association.
Powers received a bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas and a master's degree in social work from The University of Texas at Arlington. He will continue to serve as presiding officer of the board for a term to expire at the pleasure of the governor.
