Personal Information

Murphy is a retired justice of the Fifth District Court of Appeals of Texas, former judge of the 14th Civil District Court, and former civil court master for the Dallas County district courts. She is a past adjunct professor at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, and former partner at Rochelle Hutcheson and Murphy LLP, and Jenkens and Gilchrist PC. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas and Pattern Jury Charges General Negligence Committee, and a member and former board vice chair of the Dallas Bar Association. She is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and College of the State Bar of Texas, life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, founding life fellow of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, and life patron fellow and past chair of the Dallas Bar Foundation. She is also a master emeritus and past president of the Patrick E. Higginbotham American Inn of Court, mentor for the Dallas Bar Association Transition to Law Practice Program, volunteer reading tutor and Site-Based Decision Making Committee member for the Dallas ISD Cesar Chavez Learning Center, and a volunteer for Crossroads Community Services.

Murphy received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Dallas and a law degree from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, and civil and appellate certifications at the Texas Center for the Judiciary College for Judicial Studies.
