Personal Information

Prior to his appointment as General Counsel in 2023, Justin Gordon served for nine years as Chief of the Open Records Division. In that role, he oversaw statewide open government initiatives, managed the issuance of hundreds of thousands of open records decisions, and led training efforts across Texas. Mr. Gordon began his service at the Office of the Attorney General in 2006 as an Assistant Attorney General in the Open Records Division, later becoming a drafting attorney and senior managing attorney. He subsequently served as an Assistant General Counsel in the Office of the Governor before returning to the OAG in 2015. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Baylor Law School.
