Personal Information

Jack Gorden, Jr. was elected as Councilmember of Ward 5 in April of 1984. He served as Mayor pro-tem from 1998-1999 and was elected Mayor in May of 2006.

A native of Lufkin, Mayor Gorden received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from Stephen F. Austin State University. He attended the SMU Graduate School of Banking and the University Of Colorado Graduate School Of Banking.

Mayor Gorden is employed with First Bank & Trust East Texas as an Executive Vice President.

He and his wife, Mary Jo, both Lufkin natives, are active members of First Christian Church. They have one son, Trey. He and his family also reside in Lufkin.


Mayor Gorden is an active member of many local boards and committees. Some are:

· Lead CEO of the Deep East Texas Workforce Development Board

· Angelina County Economic Development Partnership

· Member of the Lufkin Rotary Club

· Board of Trustees for Memorial Health System of East Texas

· First Vice President and Board Member of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments, serving a twelve (12) county area.

· Angelina County and Cities Health District Board

· City of Lufkin Finance Committee

· P-16 Education Council


In addition, Mayor Gorden serves on several State of Texas Boards and Committees including:

· Executive Committee of the Texas I-69 Alliance Board

· Texas Community Development Committee

· Governor’s I-69 Advisory Council for the Texas Department of Transportation

· Texas Municipal League Board of Eminent Domain

· Texas Municipal League Board of Directors
