Steve Salazar was elected in May 2003 to represent District 6 in the Dallas City Council. District 6 includes parts of West Dallas, La Bajada, Los Altos, Bachman, Northwest Dallas, Ledbetter-Eagle Ford and the Asian Trade District in Dallas, Texas.
Councilman Salazar serves as Chair of the Housing Committee and is a member of the Economic Development, Quality of Life & Government Services and Trinity River Committee. He also serves on the National Public Safety & Crime Prevention Steering Committee of the National League of Cities and the National Immigration Task Force of the National League of Cities.
Councilman Salazar began his public service in June 1992 as a Dallas County Community College Trustee at the age of 26 and in 1993 he served as chairman of the Hispanic Association of Community Colleges. Next, in May 1995, he was elected to the Dallas City Council. During his tenure on the Dallas City Council, he served as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem from May 1997 through May 2001. He is currently serving his fifth council term and is the most senior councilmember.
Steve Salazar is also the State President of the Mexican American Democrats for the State of Texas. He has held this statewide position since August 2000.
Steve is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1986. He continued his education in Houston, Texas and received his law degree, Juris Doctor, from the University of Houston School of Law in 1988. He is licensed by the Texas Supreme Court, United States District Court – Northern District and the United States Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit. His law firm, Law Office of Steve Salazar, is located in the central part of Oak Cliff in Dallas.
