Tom Braun was first elected to City Council in May of 2004. He served as Deputy Mayor Pro Tempore in 2006 and currently serves as Mayor Pro Tempore. Prior to his election to City Council, he was appointed to the Addison Planning and Zoning Commission serving as Vice Chairman in 2003 - 2004. Tom is a 2002 Citizen Academy graduate, 2003 member of the Addison Charter Review Commission, 1999 graduate of FMI Executive Training, and 1999 graduate of Trammel Crow QPA 2000. He is a graduate of Kansas State University receiving a Bachelor of Science Construction Management & Engineering.
Tom moved to the Dallas area after graduation and has worked in the construction industry with several local commercial general contractors. In 2004, he started VertiCon Construction to serve the growing north Texas region. Much of VertiCon's work has been constructed in Collin County and includes the Cooper Aerobics Center and the Cooper Clinic facility. With the large demand for housing in the region, VertiCon Residential was founded in 2005 to service the residential sector.
Tom served as 2000 Board Member for the McKinney Family YMCA and on the Board of Directors for Tex-Kan, Inc.,
Tom and his wife Anita moved to Addison in 1991.
